PRIDE A talk by: Dr. Sam Schnaiter Listen: Download ************************************************************** The Lord has blessed us to be able to have a garden everywhere that we have lived since we married. Butternut Squash
We are having Zucchini for dinner quite a lot lately. We should probably make some Zucchini Bread . http://www.momswhothink.com/bread-recipes/zucchini-bread-recipe.html A cute curly cuccumber. It looks like a donut. One of my favorite plants to see growing are pumpkin. I love to watch the Lord make them larger and turn their dark green into a bright orange when they are ripe. Our eggplant ---plants---are getting large this is our first time growing those. I also planted some apple gourds. We saw some last year at a fruit stand and I loved their unique look. One of our grape vines...Don't you love the look of vineyards? I think grapes are so pretty. Luke 6:43-45 (NKJV) 43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. ****************************************************************************** I am really enjoying this CD! HOPE OF GLORY "Long awaited CD by Marty with 14 original songs never before recorded. Over one hour of listening to the Psalms and Scriptures as they come alive with beautiful orchestrations by Tom Howard." You may listen to a little bit of each of the songs here: ***************************************************************************************** What are you thinking on today? What are you viewing? Where do you allow yourself to go? Does it fit the list of things that the Lord Jesus would desire for you to think on?
Philippians 4:7-9 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy —meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. I remember a story of a dad who did not want his child to go view a movie because it had parts in it that were evil. The child wanted to go because, it was the "cool" thing to do. Afterall, lots of people at their church group went to see it and they all seemed fine with it. The child's arguement was that though it did contain evil visuals, it had a good message at the end. So, the end justified the means and the child felt he could "handle" the sexually explicit parts. The dad then made a batch of brownies and placed them on the table, fresh out of the oven. The aroma of chocolate filled the air and soon his child came in wanting to taste the brownies. But first, the dad stopped him and said, "It is fine if you'd like to eat some of the brownies, if you think you can handle it...but I do want to give you a little information first. The brownies were made with fine ingredients. Flour, eggs, butter, sugar, cocoa powder, etc. As you can see the end product looks very good over all. But, I did add a little dog-do in the mix. It isn't much. Just a little, but overall brownies are filled with mostly good things that are fine to eat. Now, if you think you can handle it, you are welcome to consume some and see how it goes." Message received. This story was out before the onset of visual media being everywhere. Now even more so we need to come up with ways to combat evil and flee from things the Lord says to flee from instead of accepting it as ok because everyone else does it. What is most glorifying to the Lord Jesus Christ? Is it to compromise and view whatever you feel like? Or is it to put to death the flesh and live by the Spirit? The Spirit will convict His own, but a person can get to the point of shutting Him out and comparing to others, so that they pursue the things of this world. We are told not to love the world or the things of the world. Here are some suggested safeguards: -------Never let your child go alone on the internet. ------Have a set connection in the home and let mom be the only one with the password to turn on the computer. ------Turn off the computer completely when you are not using it. ------Have someone in the room with the person when they are on the computer. Have the computer facing the direction that anyone can easily see it. No closed doors. -----Get good filters and ad-block programs. -----Have an email filter so the junk doesn't even show up in your box, and have mom be a "filter" for everyone else's email. (Why mom and not dad? Because visual images are sent and males have more of a natural problem with that then do females. It is just wise. Men need safe-guards and standards that will guard their eyes and hearts). ------Don't be prideful about your children, your spouse or yourself thinking that you are above falling and that it is a "trust" issue. It is not. Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understandings in ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. If God says in His word to flee youthful lusts (and He does), then do so. He never says to throw yourself in the middle of it and see how strong you can be to test yourself....that'd be another voice advising that way. If you are a slave to sin you are not a slave to Christ, no man can serve two masters. ------Re-think the facebook thing. Is it really needful? Is it honoring to the Lord?
1 Cor. 10~ 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15 I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. 18 Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? 19 What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? 20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. 22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? 23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being. NKJV It may be fun and some of it may be innocent. But the reports I hear from others who are on it, is that it is addicting and that a person can't help but see or hear (read) things that are displeasing to the Lord if you are on there. I admit a curiosity to see what old friends are up to. But it seems that the bad out-weighs the good. When people get into the facebook life style, it seems they are changed. Look at that and see if that is helping you to be someone who has a balanced life and whose priorities are honoring to the Lord, or just living in the moment and not taking the time to see how it affecting you and your family. I think about the next generation of parents--will they spend any time individually training, loving and cherishing their children one on one...or will they just live "virtually" and reap what that will bring. I am not saying that being on facebook is sin. But I do want to encourage people to examine it, live for the Lord Jesus and see if they are spending the amount of time needed for their first ministry ...in the home. The years go by very quickly, and what is done is done. Make what you are doing count for the Lord Jesus Christ---not for your glory or popularity, but for love of Him and His priorities as seen in His word to us. |
