Where does our status and worth come from? Is it from popularity? Is it from being on social networks in order to have lots of "virtual" friends? Where should our status and worth come from? What should be important to us? Think of what your answers are to those questions---now think about how you live. Do you live that belief or is it just a good answer that sounds Christiany? I appreciated being able to listen to this, this morning:
By Mr. Kerry McGonigal
What are we willing to give up in our lives for the Lord Jesus? Are we really taking up our cross and following Him daily... or are we just going with the flow? Are we redeeming the time, or wasting it? Do we seek to do the things that are pleasing to the Lord Jesus, or do we just not think of it and really not want to deal with things that may be displeasing to Him because we are so used to feeding our flesh? If we keep ourselves busy enough, it can distract us from dealing with these things and from even having that daily on-going relationship with the Lord. How are we to act in this world? Should we blend in and be fashionable and trendy--even kind of sexy--- in order to not seem any different than anyone else? After all, it's just style right?...We don't mean it the way it looks.
Should we go the other extreme and dress in a way that draws attention to us by some dress code that makes us feel we are better than others (prideful). These are questions that Christians need to ask themselves. I go into waiting rooms where there are businesses of people who profess Jesus as their Lord , and these places are filled with evil images all over magazines available for all to see (and very difficult not to see the wicked covers even when trying to avoid them). Is it ok now for Christians to look upon evil images, because it has become the norm? Is it ok to make that readily available to others as well in your place of business? We are to be in but not of the world. We are to go along the way of our lives and interact with the lost in the love of the Messiah Jesus our Savior. But we are not to become like them in indulging sin and accepting what the Lord tells us to flee from and have nothing to do with. We must take the time to spend with our Savior daily. We must be in His word of truth--the Bible studying it! We must be an on-going repentant child who lovingly admits sin and deals with it on an on-going basis. I think of how God is our heavenly Father. We who are born again and are trusting in the Righteousness of Jesus Christ alone for our salvation, may come boldly before the throne of grace. But does a child go boldly before his father when he has been blatantly disobedient and has no intention of changing that behavior...expecting that his father will give him things and ignore that whole rebellious issue in his life? Well, God is the ultimate Father! He is the perfect Father! He wants the very best for His children, but He is also wise, all knowing and consitent and will discipline them when they are not obeying. Our obedience is not to some ritual on Sundays, or repeating lines of a liturgy in order to make us feel good... our obedience is from a heart surrendered to the Lord Jesus every day and a loving relationship with Him. We should want to please our Heavenly Daddy. He is the One who says He is the loving Father...let's think about that and live like sons and daughters who love, honor, respect and desire to please their perfect Father. He is always looking out for our best interests and His ways are not burdensome. We are not under law, but under beautiful Grace since Jesus Christ went under law for us and completed it--fulfilling all! All praise to our wonderful God. May we all seek to please Him daily in EVERYTHING we do with grateful hearts! Living for Jesus Text: T. O. Chisholm 1. Living for Jesus a life that is true; striving to please him in all that I do, yielding allegiance, gladhearted and free, this is the pathway of blessing for me.
Refrain: O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to thee; for thou, in thy atonement, didst give thyself for me; I own no other master, my heart shall be thy throne, My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ for thee alone.
2. Living for Jesus who died in my place, bearing on Calvary my sin and disgrace, such love constrains me to answer his call, follow his leading and give him my all. (Refrain)
3. Living for Jesus wherever I am, doing each duty in his holy hame, willing to suffer affliction or loss, deeming each trial a part of my cross. (Refrain)
4. Living for Jesus through earth's little while, my dearest treasure, the light of his smile, seeking the lost ones he died to redeem, bringing the weary to find rest in him. ****************************************************************** These ripened a bit early... so we had crustless home-grown pumpkin in sort of a pie~ It was good, but didn't seem right to eat pumpkin pie in July.
